Author Guidelines

Lotus International is a journal devoted to critical inquiry into architecture, urbanism, landscape, and allied cultural and theoretical discourses. The journal welcomes original, unpublished contributions that demonstrate intellectual rigor, critical depth, and relevance to contemporary and historical architectural debates. Submissions should offer clear arguments, supported by appropriate theoretical frameworks, empirical research, or critical analysis, and should contribute meaningfully to international scholarly conversations.

Manuscripts submitted to Lotus International must be original works that have not been previously published and are not under consideration for publication elsewhere. Authors are responsible for ensuring the academic integrity of their submissions, including proper acknowledgment of sources and adherence to ethical research standards. Any form of plagiarism, data fabrication, or misrepresentation will result in immediate rejection. Where applicable, authors should disclose any potential conflicts of interest that could influence the research or interpretation of findings.

Articles should generally range between 6,000 and 8,000 words, inclusive of references, notes, and captions, unless otherwise specified by the editorial board. Submissions must be written in clear, formal, and precise academic English. Authors whose first language is not English are strongly encouraged to have their manuscripts professionally edited prior to submission. Each manuscript should include a concise abstract of approximately 250–300 words that clearly outlines the purpose, methodology, and principal conclusions of the paper, along with four to six relevant keywords to facilitate indexing and discoverability.

Manuscripts should be prepared in a standard word-processing format, using a readable font and double spacing throughout, including references and notes. The text should follow a logical structure, typically comprising an introduction, a clearly articulated body of analysis, and a conclusion that summarizes key findings and reflects on their broader implications. Headings and subheadings should be used judiciously to enhance clarity and coherence. Footnotes may be employed for substantive commentary, while endnotes should be avoided unless absolutely necessary.

Lotus International follows a consistent academic citation style. Authors must ensure that all sources cited in the text are fully and accurately listed in the reference section and that all listed references are cited in the manuscript. References should include complete bibliographic details, enabling readers to locate the sources easily. Authors bear full responsibility for the accuracy of citations and quotations.

Illustrations, figures, tables, and photographs are encouraged where they meaningfully support the argument. All visual materials must be of high resolution and submitted as separate files, clearly numbered and referenced within the text. Each figure must be accompanied by a descriptive caption and full source credit. Authors are responsible for obtaining written permission for the use of any copyrighted material and for covering any associated fees. Submission of visual content implies that the author has secured the necessary rights for publication under the journal’s licensing terms.

All submitted manuscripts undergo a double-blind peer-review process. Authors should therefore ensure that their manuscripts are anonymized, with no identifying information included in the main text or file metadata. Decisions regarding acceptance, revision, or rejection are based on the recommendations of independent reviewers and the editorial board’s assessment of the manuscript’s scholarly merit, originality, and relevance to the journal’s scope. Authors may be asked to revise their manuscripts in response to reviewers’ comments, and timely resubmission of revised versions is expected.

Upon acceptance, authors grant Lotus International the right to publish and disseminate the work while retaining copyright, which remains with the journal. All published content is made available under the Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0), permitting non-commercial use with appropriate attribution. Authors will be required to confirm their agreement with the journal’s copyright and licensing terms prior to publication.

The editorial board reserves the right to make minor editorial changes to accepted manuscripts to ensure clarity, consistency, and conformity with the journal’s style, without altering the substance of the work. Authors will be given the opportunity to review proofs prior to publication and are expected to correct typographical or factual errors promptly. Submission of a manuscript to Lotus International implies full acceptance of these author guidelines and editorial policies.
